Just so you newbies know....I have gained a lot of respect for you guys for challenging us vets! Chances are pretty good that we will teach you guys a quick lesson, but there is a chance you could win.

In the end though, you win no matter what. Why you may ask? Because you get the opportunity to learn from us and use the stratagies we use in your future games.

So, watch the game carefully and you will learn a lot!

Cheers,
Raw

Raw has just created a nice backdoor for us in case we don't win.

Good work, Scholar!

Well if we don't win it won't be Raw's fault that's for sure. :)

My odds...6-1 i'd say. :)

Sorry, it was worth 70 points so I kinda had to get it done. Missed Gaz's turn because of it too, oh well, what can ya do. I'm going running in a little while, then off to pit orchestra, so I'll be back around 8...hopefully run both groups then.

*ding ding ding* It's game time boys! Turn reports are up and the map has been updated. Hopefully everything is right because if it's not, well, sucks to me you :)

This looks to be quite interesting, my call is 8 turns, anyone else care to challenge me? :P

Good luck everyone, be sure not to let Haloween keep you from getting your orders in.

Lol, what a weird setup. :P

3 vets all in the west...we'll buy you 5 rounds of nap time Raw then we expect you to come clean up the map. :P

And it seems that the OoP isn't very nice to Eg and me (and the other vets) either...oh well...that's life, let's see if we can surprise these young ones and get some neutrals. :P

I will open a normal WOK4 game in a couple days.

Wow, have I noticed a game starting before it's full!!?

Till now, I just checked the "List All Games", and missed out.

So, esteemed Brykovian, will you count me in? I'm new, getting the hang of it, I'm in my first game (GM Andy #04), doing OK, am one of only 4 of the newbies not to miss a turn.....and I'm in Valn Ohtar, and in London, and risk getting addicted.

Can do?

HMMM, that didn't come out too well.........now that I've just viewde my post!

No, it's not me GM'ing a game. The above post makes sense only if you treat the top bit as a quote from Brykovian and the bulk as my text.....

How do I get the hang of this quoting bit?

Hey Han,

first click on 'Quote', then copy the text from Bryk, then click on 'Quote*' again (the star indicates end-of-tag. That should do.

Good luck with your next games, and hopefully one day you will be GMing yourself for real ! :P

Here are my (totally un-asked for) views on clan wars ... ;)

Any 5-on-5 team games are over quickly, since there are immediate hostilities. This short of a game really doesn't show you who is a better WOK player -- just who is more aggressive, a better short-term tactician, and/or luckier. Over the course of a normal-length game of WOK4 or 5, each of these things may help -- but the best players combine those elements with a longer-term strategic approach to the game.

Unfortunately, my clan caught a bit of heat for suggesting that the clan champs game start with 5 turns of peace between the two teams ... this was my idea, trying to find a way for a clan war to be something other than a handful of bloody turns and then over. Guess it wasn't much appreciated.

There is a skill at being good at clan wars, and I give all clan war winners their props -- but it is a different thing to be good at the full game, where diplomacy and planning more than 1 turn ahead is crucial.

My thoughts exactly Bryk. Which is why the newbie team has a shot at this game. The Vets may have a better understanding of preparation and strategy for the game but sheer agression may win the day before careful planning has a chance to bear fruit. Even being around for a very short time I have seen where aggressive play is good in the short term but it needs to be balanced with careful planning for the long term. Quick games can be won by sheer force where more drawn out games work in the favor of those who can strategize well.

I have said it before and will say it again, diplomacy wins games. With no diplomacy, as in team games or clan wars, luck plays a much larger role, especially in WOK 4. I'd say the newbie team has a good chance here simply for those reasons....in any case good luck to all. 8)

Talking about GMing. What do you do to become a GM? Chop off a finger and send it to AL?
I have noticed that the download section contains a few tools, but no GM-Newbie-starter-pack.

I guess that a new GM must be accepted by AL, is that right?

'Accepted' might be the wrong word (thank god BR is no longer around, otherwise he would pick on that) - I just do a first check if the GM has a certain standard regarding his pages.

Mully, we are ALWAYS in need of good and RELIABLE GMs. What do you need to do ?
1. keep that finger of yours 8)
2. put up a GM page and a Group page (thats what the GM pack is for)
3. join the WOK Webring (see bottom of main page)
4. mail me the link

Ill check your site and if all looks fine Ill grant you access to the KaoBase and will give you the link to the WOK managers. You then may give your first game a try (note: this cannot be a pure Beginner game). If all goes well the GMC (GM Committee) gives you the green lights to run more/further games.

Two more things around GMs:
- GM Piggy will soon be ex-GM Piggy. The clock is ticking and Sunday is the last day for him to show up. Anything needed regarding his ongoing games must be cleared up by then.
- regarding our latest GM candidate (he calls himself 'Paul') - I tried to reach you through mail, but cannot say if it got through. At least one mail to you got bounced back, plz contact me !

So go on Mully, give it a shot.

:( Not very nice of you to say that. I totally disagree on the 'thank god' part.
