Currently GMs choose the default turn length at game setup. Individual turns can be extended by use of either the pause game button or the update kaobase link. However if the game needs to have the default turn length changed, it needs to be done in the database.
Easiest solution would be for the edit kaobase page to include a 'turn length' option.

Would it be feasible from both a players and game engine perspective to decrease the length of time between turns, does the reverse principle apply to your previous post.
My thinking was by decreasing the time between turns we (I say we loosely - korexus ) could create our own speed rounds for those players both present now and future WOK gamers who cannot commit to weeks of battle. Engaging in both conventional format and perhaps even Duel format games in speed rounds, games played over a day with 1hr or 30 mins between turns or even less. If the order fields were reduced eg 3 missile, 5 attack, 5 movements, 5 spy etc this would negate the lost time ...

The form would allow any turn length to be entered, - so long as it was an integer number of hours, so reductions as well as extensions would be possible.
In the case of the speed game you mention, it would probably make more sense for the GM to choose a shorter turn length when setting up the game. On a turn to turn basis, players already have the option of running turns early through the 'I am ready' button.
Running turns automatically more than once an hour would require a higher server load. - Currently the server only checks for due turns once per hour, doing so every half hour would almost double the work done. GMs can manually run turns at any time though, so half hourly turns would be possible that way.
Chris.

Unfortunately not everybody uses the button - surely it can't be a tactical manouveur...

In hindsight an hour is plenty should we ever get enough players playing regularly to necessitate alternative game formats to keep people occupied...
One day maybe, just maybe

Agreed, but we shouldn't make it too easy for GMs to shorten the turn length if players aren't ready. In the later stages of a game the button has plenty of effect, as the plethora of new turn notifications I got from my current game can show.Hryllantre wrote:korexus wrote:On a turn to turn basis, players already have the option of running turns early through the 'I am ready' button.
