New Advanced Game.

Post by korexus » Wed Feb 27, 2008 6:43 pm

The beta test is over. Not all of the bugs were worked out, but most of them were. :-)

In an attempt to let Gaz play a game, I've opened a new game. I think we're close enough to being ready to make this a real (for VPs) game.

http://www.kaomaris.com/phpNuke/modules ... GameID=425

Note that there may still be the need for a rerun if a big bug pops up, but I'm expecting not to need that.

As a proper game, this will also be restricted to 2 seats per clan. Get them while they're hot!

Hey Korexus,

I would like to join (I've pressed the apply botton, so you should have received my EMail).

I can already report another bug!
During the last Omega turn, I threw GCAs at DEF. I reduced it down to -1.2. That should not be possible.

Furthermore, I think we should agree right at the start that if there is a re-run, then the Oop + weather should be kept fixed.

Looking forward to this one!

I might play. Depends on other commitments at this time.

I have not even been able to look at the TR's from the beta test game.

I will look at the MIS problem you mentioned Xarfei.

Not sure what you mean about reruns : A rerun just takes the position of all the players including the OOP & weather that was printed at the bottom of the previous turn reports and runs a turn based on players orders already in the database. The only variation that should occur is that the engine generates the new weather for the turn based on +/- 1 from the previous turns forecast.

That's not quite what he means. The Weather and OOP for the next turn, being random, will almost certainly be different from the original run. Personally, it doesn't bother me as other changes from the re-run are likely to be more serious anyway, but I have given GMs the option to set weather and OOP, along with a host of other things so what Xarfei asks is possible.

The reason why I am suggesting this is that we had a few reruns in the OMEGA test game to fix some market place problems.

I found it a bit annoying that one starts to plan the next turn, then after two days a rerun occurs (to fix a minor issue) and then one has to start planning all over again (Oop and weather are major factors in my opinion).

Also, this avoids the possibility of manipulating these two factors.
Let's say that I find a bug at some point and don't report it, then I could wait until a very important turn (i.e. before a war starts), make that bug reappear and ask for a rerun incase I do not get the Oop that I want.

I agree that this overall could be considered to be a minor issue, but I thought I might as well raise it while we wait for this game to fill up.

Korexus, I just had a closer look at your game page.
Did you deliberately set the weather to "certain catastrophic"?

Furthermore, is the house rules page correct, i.e. no attack on home provinces until after turn 2 + maximum of 99 upgrades in any given province?

When I gave GM's the option for changing the weather, I put a state on either end, for certain catastrophe and certain perfect. As no turn as been run yet, the engine doesn't know what the weather for turn 0 will be and so is going with the first value from the list.

I've edited the game page so that the weather forecast doesn't show before turn 0 runs.

There was a mistake in the setup file for max upgrades, I've fixed it and altered the values. I couldn't find why the HH went to 2 turns, but altered the values anyway. We'll have to keep an eye open for that one I guess.

Thanks,

Chris.

5 Spots gone so far,
SmashFace, Xarfei, Lardmaster, Hryllantre and Ultyguy.

Still slots open for any non-Scholar, non-Thuggee players out there.

is 10 / 20 FINERS still a possible starting spell?

Do we get to chose one?

TBert takes slot 6.

I believe all white spells are available at the start, however Gaz is the man to ask on that one.

The starting spell will be random, partly because I haven't made an easy way for the GM to set player spells yet and partly because I want you to suffer!

I will play.

There are 15 White spells including 10 fingers and 20 fingers and the engine is supposed to pick you one randomly.

I understand there was some lengthy debates about how the players score should be calculated (was a concensus ever reached)?

Did you forget to check which site you were posting on? :P

As I recall, there was some worry about the score formula counting troops by their PDEF as it allowed upgrades to hide in other terrains and not influence score very much. However some people liked it that way, so it may not be worth changing yet...

Some adjustments will definitely be a good thing, but it's probably quite a low priority I guess...

Chris.

PS. Aussie Gaz makes player #7.

I am fine with the spell & tribe getting assigned randomly.

I do prefer games however, where you get to chose them, or at least were everyone starts with the same ones. This setup is more fair, but then again the starting positions are usually hugely unbalanced so.....

My mistake. I hit the wrong button when adding Gaz and accidentally ran turn 0. When I reset everything, I forgot the game status. Fixed now.

I will be away next week. I doubt that the game will fill until then.
But just in case.

If players want, I will kick this one off early. Although I'd prefer at least one more player and I'll probably wait for Xarfei.
