Stats.

Post by korexus » Sun Mar 02, 2008 4:58 pm

I've change the code so that some monsters now have a significantly higher chance of dropping tomes and potions. (Actually, I've allowed for each monster to be likely or certain to drop any item type, but I know what you lot will be interested in!)

The first two chests I opened after making the changes contained a tome of might and a potion of might, so I think the changes work. I may have gone too far, or may just have gotten lucky. We'll see how the new options balance.

Currently, only about a tenth of monsters have items tied to them. I'm going through the database adding the information, but that will be quite a long job...

In my first 15 monsters I have had one potion and one tome. My potion cost me a stupid amount to identify as did the tome. I don't seem to be able to do anything with the tome though, can't equip or use it. Even tho I have identified it I don't actually get any info from it apart from the name?

Depends on the name of the tome, but most of them increase a stat by 1 when you 'Us'e them. To see which stat, look at the modified stats part of the items page (click on the name). Of course, as your ID item ability gets better, and you get used to the names, you won't have to ID them all the way.

Tomes need 100 AP to use, that's probably why it's not working.

I now have 750 aps and still can't do anything with the tome. When I click on the name all i get is the below. I can guess what it does by the name ofc but I don't get any stats at all.

Miscellaneous: Tome

Tome of Learning is currently owned by Lardmaster of Thuggee.

Lardmaster of Thuggee owned this from March 2, 2008, 12:35 pm to the present.

Ok then next most like cause (and you're not going to like me if this is the problem):

Are your Int and Wis both high enough? If this is the problem then you should be getting a message to that effect when you try to use it. Again, required stats can be seen by clicking on the name, assuming it's IDed far enough.

If your stats aren't high enough, you'll have to find a few potions (which have no stat requirements) first.

Ah. You mean I may have to ID something multiple times? Isn't that a bit expensive at over 100k a shot? Actually in the shop I don't seem to have the option to identify them anymore. The description page doesn't show me any stats other than one charge, plus 1 to intelligence or wisdom.

I don't get any message at all when trying to use them.

There are 4 levels of ID, from barely IDed to fully IDed. If the option to identify doesn't show then it is fully identified.

This can be steep if you want to keep an item, but if you don't then it doesn't matter too much as IDed items are worth more and also You ID items yourself as well as you can, based on level, INT, WIS and ID Item skill.

For a fully IDed Item, you should see two rows in the stats box: Required and Modified. For example, here is my robe of insight: http://www.kaomaris.com/phpNuke/modules ... temID=4124

This item requires a wisdom of 10 to use or equip, and provides a bonus 2 wisdom.

The messaging currently only seems to appear if you are not in the city. I'll play around with the game page to fix that, however I suspect that your INT of 8 is causing the problem.

And your activity points are 0. Wait for about 12 minutes then try again. :P

In that case, could you try using it outside the city? (Doesn't matter which square, just on the adventure screen somewhere.) Feedback messages don't seem to be working from inside the city just now...

Lardmaster,

I have collected two potions of intelligence (no minimum stats, no AP cost). What are they worth to you?

Ha, as you can't use the Give order yet not very much

This is what I get with my tome. Doesn't give the same readout as other kinds of items.

Hmm, I take it back. Obviously I messed something up when I did the view items page for tomes...

There is a give option available. The items system was built on Yondallus's item system, so I can give it to you through the forums. Happy Birthday. :)
