GM Mike's - Back to the roots

Post by trewqh » Thu May 17, 2007 9:56 pm

Hi there! :)

Couldn't remember the last Standard game on the Original map so I thought it's high time to remind you all about it.

Everybody's invited!

I used the 2 turn home province protection rule to see how it works in a different environment, cause I think it produced an intersting outcome in Austrian Apocalypse - noone had enough of an edge to start a serious war. (Or does that drag the game too long? Discuss! :D )

So anyway, make sure to check out the house rules and I hope you aren't discouraged by my decision to use a different set of rules than the two previous Lardy's games.

I like the whole 'real war' notion. The concept of transforming your entire population into troops is, you have to agree, a little bizarre and it would provide a degree more reality to maintain a population base which provides a slow but steady military growth potential.

I am a realism based wargamer at heart and frankly to move your entire pop from region to region is bordering on the silly. Couldnt someone ban pop movement and set a minimum pop level under which a province cannot be taken. This would put a whole new aspect on things. No longer would vast tracts of land be completely devoid of life. We would have a reason to defend all provinces.

Sorry .... rambling again .... sign me in Trewgh

Try WoK V.

Standard WoK is meant to be quite simple to play. Working on a Risk style setup where your battle strategy is key.

Advanced WoK has many more elements, including an entire economy which you need to run. - Feed your people, otherwise your workers don't work. The more you feed them the more taxes your POP produce and you need money to pay your troops and to pay for technological advances and magical spells.

Setting minimum POP levels would, peversly, make the game much easier. It would have to be balanced by having more POP in each starting province and would mean that players didn't really have to think about what to do with their limited resources. Deciding how many armies and how many workers to make with the POP you have is a key part of the strategy!

I might as well play in another one, I dropped off way before WokOn, I think I'll stick around for a while now that I see how awesome it is.

While I do not really have the time to do this, I have signed up. (Southern Reaches is going to be getting busy)

GM Mike,

From here on out, I will be playing as the Clan Head of the Circle of Nine. It will take me a little while to get a new website up, but I am going to be reforming my Clan.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you.

One last spot left. Come and get it while it's fresh!

When I get home, I will re-activate CoN with you as clan head. You get a bit of space to talk about the clan and upload a picture within the Lobby. - Not much, but it's free and has no pop-ups... :D

I'll take the opportunity to do a bit of housekeeping on the clans. Shout up if you don't want the chop! :behead:

Tut. I sort my naps out and then the game is re-run. You wouldn't catch a proper GM like me doing that. Oh wait a minute...
Question everything.
