Patience
Donut strolled through the vast corn fields that he had called home for the last few weeks. His thoughts were of how to continue to feed his people. His stock of corn had dwindled very low, but he knew it was necessary in order to allow the rest of his crop to grow. It was now time to capitalize on his strategy. As he continued on his path he noticed movement in the field just ahead of him. Unwaivered he continued to do the math of feeding his people in his head.
Again he noticed more movement in the fields. It was apparent that there was unwelcome company on the path ahead. Signalling to the pair of servants behind him that there may be trouble, he began to draw his sword. At that moment two men emerged out of the corn holding their swords, still sheathed. After a moment of hesitation, Donut put his sword away and approached the men.
"Lord Donut, we do not come to fight."
Donut pulled his hood away from his face to display a calm, inquisitive face. "This is hardly the way to come in peace."
"We apologize, but we've been on the run."
"Interesting news. Who are you? Why are you running? And do you really expect me to help you?"
"No, sire... We only wish to inform you... Our Master has fallen." As he said this he pulled back a patch on his shoulder, revealing the banner of Duke.
"Not unexpected," Donut paused and thought for a moment... "Follow me." Donut split the men and walked in a hurried pace down the path. After a long walk, they came to a large log cabin set on a small hill in the middle of more corn fields. Donut was greeted by several servants with food, water, and random notes from across his lands as he entered the cabin. He continued down a small hallway into an office. The two men from the field followed him in and a servant closed the door as he left.
Among the men already in the room were Donut's chief advisor and Lord Fredo's ambassador. They both looked up in suprise to see the two men. With only a glance to the men, Donut sat at his desk and began searching for something. He finally found a map in his desk and pulled it out, rolling it over everything. Staring at it for several moments, he looked up to his chief advisor.
"I was right, It's time..."
The scars remind us that the past is real.
