Champs

Post by Underdog » Thu Jan 01, 2004 4:17 am

OK since the scoring year is officially over have there been any games finished since Bjorn last updated the hi-score list?
I am curious for 2 reasons.
1. I am the player on the bubble for the champs and ,
2. If there have been no games finished since that last update then I would hope that the respective GM's start sending out their invites the their games. Bjorn is away for a few more days but I am fairly sure he will want to play in the big game. TK also I suspect will want to play but might not be able to answer an invite until after school restarts (not sure about that).

Just a post to see if we can get the games started so they can end BEFORE the end of Summer.
There's no need to fear...........

Don't worry Underdog, i'm giving up my spot in the Champs to somebody who likes to play wok 5. I would like to get an invite to the WOK 4 Champs.

I guess that means that there will be another Scholar in the Champs, right Bryk? :D

Well, I am not really sure if I am this year's Champs GM or not.

Al said 'yes' and nobady else said 'no' (or 'yes' either :P), but is that enough?

I am quite certain that no game has finished in the last few days so the HiScore page that is online now (last update: December 10, 2003) is a valid list for 2003 Champs player qualification.

To makes things quicker I will usurp the right to at least send out invitations for the 2003 Champs.

Looking at HiScore I believe that, excluding Sal, each of the Top 10 players will want to play in the Champs, so I will send invitations to them plus Egbert (2002 WOK Champ) today.

Thank you for your attention, comments are more than welcome,
GM Mike

Looking forward to see the Champs going, Kermit !

You might want to add the question about a Turn limit to the invitations....

And thanx for running the show !

For some reason I thought Turnmax does not apply to Championship game and although it's not stated on the WSC page there is also nothing about how to resolve Champs with Turnmax (there has to be 1 winner).

No Turnmax then unless someone finds a good solution.

I know it's under the Champs thread, but I don't really know what I'm doing anyway :P

I guess I'm the GM for the Vice Champs game? Same thing with Trewqh, I didn't hear anyone else chime in about wanting the job.

My question is do I just send invitations to spots 11-20 on the HiScore Page? Also, what questions do I need to ask in the invitation other than map choice? Speaking of which, how do I choose which maps are chosen by the players? So confusing!!

On a side note. I can't seem to get my wok 5 manager to open. It says I'm missing a file, comdlg32.ocx. Raw kindly sent me the file so I have it in e-mail, but no matter where I supposedly place it (I'm trying at least, don't know if it's working or not), I continue to get the error saying it cannot locate the file. If I cannot come up with a way to get it working I'm simply going to burn all my files to a CD and delete both managers and then install them. It's a last resort but I need to get my groups moving.

Funty,
I had the same problem and I think there were others. If I remember right there is something on the files page that will tell you what to do.
If that fails I'm sure Al will be more than happy to let you know what to do. I know he got me going when that happened to me. I think it was the same file I was missing

The file: Install WOK StoneWars, this'll place that missing file in the proper place and I guess you can uninstall the game afterwards without removing the system files/libraries or whatever you call it.

Vice-Champs qualification: I think the only fair solution is to invite nine players with highest score out of the ones not in the (WOK 5) Champs + current Vice-Champ. (So, ie. including Saladin).
In this case you'd have to wait until the Champs group is filled, Funty. I still didn't receive confirmations from 3 players. But I think I should wait at least 4 more days.

Map for the Championship: I guess this is the GMs matter which map to choose. The maps I suggested to the players invited to Champs are just the ones I liked. I wanted the players to have influence on the process but I thought that asking them 'Which map would you like?' without suggesting anything wouldn't get me anywhere.

Underdog: You are one of the 3 players I didn't get confirmations from yet. I sent the invitation to: wok_underdog@hotmail.com and didn't get a bounce back. Looking forward to your reply!

The other players who didn't reply to the invitations are Egbert and Bjorn. I hope to hear from them when the work-week begins.

Thanx Kermit for answering so quick - quite right !

1. get the Champs group filled first (set a deadline) then Funty can send invitations for the Vice-Champs
2. about the missing file: this is due to the many Windows versions and updates/patches - either install WOK StoneWars (which includes the same system files required) or download them manually and put them into your Windows/System (or Windows/System32 for XP and Win2000) directory. That should do the trick.
3. Watch out for champs it is Eg + Top 9 contenders, and Vice champs its Raven + next 9 spots....

Is anyone interested in playing WOK StoneWars ? I recently fired it up and had a good time, so if anyone wants to challenge me online we can meet in the WOK chat and "duke it out"....

Hey Guys!!

Who are the top ten, and is the championship up and running?
I'm interested in seeing the best in WOK 4, and curious about who the
top ten are. How do I find this out.

Hey Mike, I hope you get the nod for GM. Your doing a great job for Feudal!

It's a miracle! Thanks again guys. I figured it was a good sign when the first file it unzipped was that which it said I needed. Guess it's a waiting game now, let me know when I'm up Trewqh :)

That's true, Pat!

Still waiting for a reply from THE Champ.
Again, I didn't expect a reply from Eg earlier than on Monday.

But I think we can consider the Champs group closed :D (though not officially)

Funty, I think you can already start your job by sending your invites to 'the uncertain ones' like Count Henri, Calidus or.... Dameon

But make sure to send invitations to them, maybe it'll bring them back (to WOK 4 at least  )!

Well I doubt Nick will accept the wok 4 champs invitation. :D

So i guess the next nine would be:

Saladin
Goat Herder
Trewqh
Aussie Gaz
Count Henri
Calidus
Strider
Lord Fredo
Dameon

With 3 of those being uncertain that would bring
Lardmaster
Massielita
Warped Angel

in as well should they not be interested.

Now that's a strong field!

I've been away from my work computer for 2 weeks, and you would think the computer guy there would have fixed the virus on it. :x Well, I still can't get onto the internet from work, so you guys will only be hearing from me sporadically (some may think that is a good thing  ). In any event, I am sending out my acceptance to GM Mike via email right now.

7. Funtastick 3-1
8. Underdog 4-1

Well at least Raw didn't put himself at 10-1 like last time. :D

Now let's see

1. Egbert 1-2 (what can i say)
2. Raw 2-1
3. korexus 4-1 (my outside bet)
4. Brykovian 4-1
5. Thin King 4-1
6. Allister Fiend 5-1 (you never know with Allister)
7. Funtastick 6-1
8. Underdog 6-1
9. Bjorn Toulouse 6-1
10. Smashface 6-1

To be honest i don't think anybody other than a Scholar has a chance. I know TKG had a big majority in the last Champs, but to be honest we're more WOK 4 players than WOK 5 where as all Scholars are good WOK 5 players.

If Eg wins again we should give him a big trophy and not invite him back next year. :P
