GM Wippo - New Advanced Game (#2)

Hey Advanced Wok players,

as promised, I am happy to GM the next Advanced Wok game.

However, first I would like to ask a few questions:

1) Which map would players like?
Currently there are only two available, so I guess we should go for the other one (Classical)

2) What about the other options?
I would like to allow Teleport at something like tech level 10.
I would mention the GCAs in the commentary.
I would prefer no bad weather&bridges.

3) How wants to play?

1: Classical works for me, although at some point that lazy good for nothing Chris should add some more maps!

2: Sounds fine

3: I want to play, can't speak for How though, whoever he is...

I'll play too. Don't care about the map but am sure there are more than 2 wok 5 maps? I always liked the space one but no-one else did.

There are, many more. Problem is that no one's gotten round to adding them to the game engine yet...

What would that take? I still have a month of vacation left! :P

PS. I'm in regardless of the map. And the rules suggestions sound jusst fine.

Umm, nothing all that complicated. It's just tedious and easy to make a mistake, so I'd been going to make an automated script for adding maps. Feel free to look through the database and try to do a couple more maps, I'll email you the details this evening.

Just remember to change the map numbers by adding 50.

Wok 5 Map 1 = Map 051
Wok 5 Map 2 = Map 052

The above are already done (obviously).

Would have a go at converting some more myself but am pushed for time at the moment as I will be moving overseas (back to the Australian Mainland :) ) in a few weeks.

I'm in as well and I haven't played enough to care about which map we use.

To throw in two more comments:

1) Do the players all want to start in a city (is that option even available) or do you prefer random starting positions?

2) I plan to raise the MRES maximum from 999 to 9999. Since, as far as I remember, the MRES wasn't capped in the last version of Wok5.
(If you think this won't ever make a difference, I reached 999 in the last game  )

It can certainly be done, by a very patient (or lucky!) GM re-running turn 0 until it's right. I think the feature was added, but it could be by means of a frig (e.g. set no player without a city for turn 0, then turn it off again). You'll have to look through the (long) list of GM options I guess...

It only actually makes a difference if someone gets to 999 and is later reduced to 0. Possible I know, but did it happen?!

No player without a city & All players start in city were implimented in the coding and they should be in the game variables at setup time.

The only advanced option I didn't get to was the Eight city rule (I think).

Will try to look at the correct varaible to set.

Gaz

edit: in the advanced setting for each advanced game there are options to change almost every variable in the game. If you change Players start in a city to 1 (from 0) then they will all start in a city. To set teleports on you need to set Teleports to 1 and TeleportTL to whatever tech level you want to enable them on.

If in doubt then give me a yell (or an email, MSN etc)

I will open the game tonight.

Until then, suggestions can be incorporated.

Unless I hear otherwise, the starting positions will be random.

Another important issue came to my mind:

How often do you guys want the turns to run?

The last game was 1 turn every week.

Can I change this option after I have opened a game (before turn 0)?

If we were to start soon shorter deadlines would be nice, but if it turns out that the game starts closer to October then 1 turn per week sounds perfect.

1 week works for me, I have not too much time still... :(

You *can* change the turn length in game, but only by manually resetting the turn length every turn. Alternatively I can do it in the database for you, but only grudgingly! :P

I liked the 1 week turn around, but I'm pretty easy. I'll be on vacation next week but I doubt that it will be started by then.

I have now opened the new Wok Advanced game:

"GM Wippo - TheUsualSuspects"

Rules:
Game is for VPs.
Starting positions are random.
GCAs mentioned in the commentary.
Teleport at tech level 10.
No bad weather&bridges.
MRES maximum raised to 9999 (from 999).
Everyone starts with 11 armies plus one of each upgrade type (i.e. still 15 troops in total).

(I couldn't resist playing with the numbers a bit).

Currently, I have set the turns to run every 96h, but this is still open for discussion once we have enough players.

Everyone is welcome to join.

The current line-up:

The Scholars:
Korexus
Ultyguy

Thuggee:
Lardmaster

The Vulkings:
trewqh

If you want to join, just post here and I will add you to the game!

Xarfei

PS: I reserve the right to alter the commentary to include cynical and / or supposingly funny remarks (if I can be bothered) without giving away extra information, of course.

Smashface applied to join, he is our sixth player now.

Furthermore, I received another automatized request via E-Mail. However, that E-Mail was lacking a name.

Whoever you are, tell me, so that I can add you to the game.

Xarfei

PS: All players are welcome, no matter how good you are of whether or not you have played before!

PPS: The line-up for now:
The Scholars:
Korexus
Ultyguy

Thuggee:
Lardmaster
Hryllantre

The Vulkings:
trewqh

The Circle of Nine:
Smashface

That's a bug, I fixed it for Standard games, but have forgotten to do it for Advanced. Basically Smashy's Google toolbar is applying too.
