Minimum AP?

Post by korexus » Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:01 am

So, the post on the anouncements section is getting a bit crowded. I figured I'd create a new forum, that way we can discuss game options and find what's been mentioned in the past more easily.

So, my first question to testers is about Activity Points (AP). I've just hit level 15, as an elf that gives me a max AP of 2,700. If I were to use them efficiently (always log in before they maxed out) this would give me a maximum of 6480 AP per day, which is plenty!

However, at lower levels and for the less agile races running out of AP seems to be a bit of a problem, especially for spell casters. I want to keep them in the game, but don't want them to be overly restrictive. New players are currently given 1000 AP when they start, regardless of race, so they can explore a bit. Would it make sense to set 1000 as the minimum for all players?

Discuss.

Not sure what the minimum should be but from my point of view aside from weekends I can only log in once a day really, after work, so my APs will always max out and be wasted.
Question everything.

what affects AP? dexterity? spells, does swim affect it more than walking? now that i have played around with spells and seen how effective they are, especially at multiple targets, i agree it is fair to have them use up AP. more thoughts to continue.

Currently, only Level and Race affect your AP. Higher level means more AP, the tradtionally slower races (Hobbits, Gnomes, Dwarves) get fewer AP but this is balanced somewhat by having natural resistances to various nasty effects that monsters can throw at you.

Moving into different squares costs different amounts of AP. Swim doesn't reduce the AP, it just helps you not drown if you are in water. Levitation reduces all movement costs to a flat rate.

I can certainly see an argument for letting DEX influence your AP. Also, as they do cover the roll of spell points, INT and WIS (and CHA?) could have an input too.

I'm also working on two items. Scroll and Tome of activity to restore 1/10 and all your AP resectively.

thanks Chris! why would race affect how much moving from square A to square B AND how much AP you get per hour? is that double taxing on the slower races? or am i just not understanding the system correctly.

Race doesn't affect the cost of moving through terrain, the type of terrain does. Race just affects your total AP (and thus the AP you get back per hour). Sorry for not being clear.
