Proudly introducing... the TDH !!

Post by gm_al » Sat Jul 26, 2003 3:55 pm

I finally found some time to take care of something that always nagged the community.

I therefore am proud to introduce to you today the TDH,

THE GM TURN DATA HANDLER FOR ALL WOK GAMES

By using it, a GM can now save a copy of his latest Turn data file in our database !! :P No more lost games, no more hassles with quitting GMs.... 8)

It took me a day to realise my current CGI script couldnt handle the attachments correctly, so I looked and found a nice PHP script which I modified in order to work properly with the file-driven database of WOK.

Here is the deal:
1> All GMs wishing to use the tool can mail me for the link. The tool is strictly restricted to be used by GMs. All personal informations (IPs etc.) can be stored for verification purposes.
2> Every GM using it (who wouldnt ?) are required to post their use here in this thread. Also an update message on their Group page(s) is required.
3> Attachments are restricted to be smaller then 100 KB and cannot be any form of executable files. Also no pics etc., just the Turn data.
4> Files will not be stored eternally. Just like the stored AOFs, this uses some bandwith and server space. It can well be that I have to delete a bunch of old AOFs and Turn datas without prior warning.
5> Access to this data is restricted solely to me. If at any time a situation occurs that requires a second view I will give someone from the GMC access to the data too. This also means that GMs of Groups I play in might not want to save their Data with the TDH - thats fine with me of course (but then I could also have used any AOF copy that was stored until now - its a question of trust after all)

I hope you enjoy this great new feature as much as I do ! :P :P :P

Fantastic Al!

If all GM's use it we will have no more unfinished games from now on! No more weird reruns because a GM has written over the old data. :)

Thanks again Al and sign me up!

Sign me up, Al. Just let me know how it works, and I'll try it.

BTW, I think either the WSC or the GM Committee should look into making this a MANDATORY requirement for all GMs. If it is not mandatory, then unfortunately, the problem of unfinished games has not been solved. I would think that the more conscienscious GMs would volunteer to do this. However, it is the half-hearted GMs --- the ones who are likely to leave games unfinished --- who we want to have to do this.

I agree fully with Eg, I am all for making this a mandatory requirement, but I don't think we need a WSC/GMC vote to do so unless anybody seriously objects, and I cannot imagine why they would. I for one will use it certainly, there's no real reason not to.

Dont forget to always use the TDH !

thanks both of you.
Now, Al,

You might want to check and make sure I did that right. I have no clue whether I did it right or not. I can be just like Strider at times and screw-up the simplest things.

I got the Turn data, but you might want to change the "GM#xxxx" etc. with your actual name and Group number next time....
