Is anybody there?
From IM I've come to the conclusion that there are currently two versions of Kaomaris. I'm assuming this is because the web host has bought a new server, so some of us are being pointed at that, while others still see the old one. This is an experiment to see which is which.

This pretty much confirms my suspicions. You'll be using a different ISP at home and at university, one of them is seeing the new server and one is seeing the old.
DNS can take up to 48 hours to propagate world wide, so this could be a bit of a problem...

All the game maps are down for people looking at this server. I'm not entirely sure why this would be as I don't get an error message when looking at the file directly (just a blank page) but all the image processing on the site seems to be down. Advanaced maps, Standard maps and the front page rotation, all of which are created by different scripts.

Does that mean that, from one location, you could see the other server and now see this one?Ultyguy wrote:I'm now not able to see the maps and updates from work.

That would suggest that this server is the more up to date one and therefore the lack of map pages is a bit of a problem...

I saw the maps and the proper turn report for Omega earlier today (about 6 hours ago), but I can't see them now. I've only been viewing them from my home computer, so I don't think this is an ISP issue. I haven't rebooted my computer between then and now either, for the record.

Chris ... They may not have the same php setup (graphics libraries enabled, etc.) on the newer server. So, that might not be as big of a problem as you're thinking. (I assume the gamepage maps are generated dynamically as you call the page ... if not, then it might just be a problem displaying image files with certain extensions ... perhaps even case sensitivity.)

This is almost certainly the case. The question though is how much does the new server differ from the old server?Brykovian wrote:Chris ... They may not have the same php setup (graphics libraries enabled, etc.) on the newer server.
As well as the images not loading, the Omega test did not run, even though it was marked as running and overdue. Hopefully the hosting just forgot to move our cron jobs over as if the turn checker or game engine scripts fail then there are significant differences.
I'm waiting to hear from the hosting company on these issues. I'll keep you all up to date.

Images now work, cron jobs don't yet so I'll run the game engine manually a few times today.Hi Chris, I've recompiled apache and with the current server move I need you to test performance and modules. The machine that Kaomaris was on I believe I provisioned in 2004.
I've doubled the ram, added three more CPU cores so we should see a very high performing and stable environment for the foreseeable future.
Let me know if the changes fixed the issues.
Say what you like about our hostings servers, but their support is top notch.
Chris.
