Just an update, before I go to bed.
In the 3 hours or so since I added the adsense options, the site has made $1.80. That works out one cent/minute, if we can keep that up, WoK Con 2009 will be in the Bahamas!
Of course, I'm sure that we will get more clicks while the options are new, but if members can try to use the Kaomaris search box, instead of their regular search choice, it looks like they will be making a measurable difference to the community.
Chris.

Ooh, that's a good question! *Looks*
No, Google doesn't record the information where I can see it and opening the page in a new window means our server doesn't even know your doing it, so you are free to search for anything you want.
On the other hand, I can sometimes see what pages members were on *before* coming to kaomaris, although not which member. Not that I've looked before and, after seeing a slightly disturbing list, I probably won't look again!

That's eerie. I'm getting some of the same ads here that I get next to my gmail every time I mention "NAP" in an email.
I'll start using the search box. Just gotta retrain myself. Where's that shock collar to zap me every time I use my Firefox google...

One comment on the search box. It performs the search in a new window named google_window. This is fine in itself, but if I perform another search it will perform that search in the same window as the last search, thereby replacing the page I am looking at...
So. Can you change the form target to "_blank"? That will cause each search to open in a new window.

TBert, the ads are based on page content in the same way as GMail ads are based on your email. When you're emailing about WoK that should make for a large cross over.
Mullog, done. I hope Google don't mind me changing their code, but it's not as though I've changed the functionality at all...

Well, it's not as though you have to use it. It's just there if you want to.Dragonette wrote:i find the new window a bit annoying as i have a google task bar up top anyway.
I'm not sure why having the google toolbar (or similar) installed would make the new search box "annoying". Is it in the way? - I can change the position and, to an extent, the size if need be.
