Well, players of my group.

Let me know when you want a game to start and I'll kick it going. I need to hear from both players in order to start a game.

You may play all games at once or one at a time. Either way works for me.

In case you can see it. I messed up while setting up the game and accidently pressed "run turn" before I had entered all the robos.

I've paused it and will asap set up a new one. Could you remove the failed one in some way Kor?

I'll watch two episodes of Heroes first and THEN I'll set it up :)

Go to update kaobase, then set the turn to -1, then try again.

Why does everyone always want to delete games which went wrong? Don't you guys know that it messes up my database?!

Too late. I already set up anotherone. Should I put the bad one to "finished"?

Set it to 'pending'. That way it won't show up in searches before I get a chance to delete it...

Alternatively, use it for the Duel between Han and Hryll.

Dookie! Problem with the province neighbours. I wouldn't mind the dark green robot teleporting to beat on Dragonette, but also a one of my province failed attack #1. I suggest a re-run. (I fixed the neighbours).

It does seem odd that three of the robots jumped on turn 1. Either there are a lot of dodgy links in the ini for this map, or something unusual happened when Duke set it up. I guess we'd better keep a close eye on things...

I'm guessing the former. I guess the Robo-attacks are exposing previously-unsuspected wrong neighbour-details. There was one in Skull Islands; hopefully just the one.

Three out of four Robos did an adjacent attack on a prov that's not supposed to be adjacent? - the map must be riddled with 'em! Probably doesn't matter all that much in a Standard, but does in a Duel with its Robos, of course.

I'll add "Colonial" to my list of maps I'll avoid when GM'ing a Duel.

I'd better write the list somewhere I can find again. Searchword: Duelmaps.

And maybe it's worth sharing it here, as 4 GM's are setting up 24 Duels for the Group-stage, and others are GM'ing Duels too, so they might be glad of it.

Starting with the positive:

I heartily recommend for Duels:
Suburbia
Feudal
Skandinavia
Penta
Crossland
Forest Lake

I'm OK about, or looks likely to be OK:
Center Island
WOK Islettes
Gardenic

I'm less keen on/I'll avoid:
Original/Classic (too few narrowings for Duel)
Austria (same)
South America
Water-Crossing
Colonial (wrong neighbourings)
Skull Islands (same, but on probation)
Cross Islands (too hard to make fairly even)
Three Worlds (a prov with zero Pop - great for Standard, ruins a Robo)
Missilemania (too tedious searching the map for where you can bomb, when playing 3 colours)
And any that have lots of provs too small to write in! (Lots of us run off hard copy and write in)
Caribbean
The World
Business District
Lava Land
Risk World
Homelands
And any that have lots of provs filled with pics so you can't write in!
Monster Island
South Westeros

Oh, and some of the above are too generous on Pop, so it's too easy to have Pop and armies, not worth fighting for yet more Pop. But I can't remember which ones.

(It wd be nice if somebody with too much time on their hands might visit all maps and calculate or Excel the average Pop per prov in each map, if only for interest, for Standard as well as Duels ... and as a guide to people creating NEW maps? Saladin used to complain that some maps were too generous on starting-pop, and of course he was right).

Just my view and learning from GM'ing quite a few. It might help someone starting to GM Duels.

Han ... can you help me understand why you avoid this map for Duels? It'll be helpful when the map-designing bug hits me again.

Korexus ... do you have the original INI file (the old one loaded into the old PC game manager app)? If so, I can look at it in the Map Assistant to see where the neighbors are assigned, and fix things where needed.

*sigh*

Well, despite putting it to turn -1 I still cant see how I can switch maps so I guess we start the whole thing over. I put this game as well on "Pending".

Ok, I've set up a new board using the Feudal map.

Good luck.

Duke. I'm really confused. You seem to have started up yet another game. All we needed was a re-run of turn 1...

I don't think I've made it clear how much work people abandoning a game actually causes me. So let me state here, that it makes me seriously consider revoking a GM's license every time I have to trawl through the database and clear up these things. Especially as the situation is almost always something easy to fix.

So, from the top.

Game ID 407 "GM_Duke's - TDC Duke K vs D": Has missing robots. If you reset the turn to -1, you should be able to change the players, put the robots in and use it for one of the other duels.

Game ID 408 "GM_Duke's - TDC Group C Dragonette - Korexus": Has started, but turn 1 messed up due to a lousy ini file. I've corrected the ini, so re-running turn 1 will fix the problem. However this is the game which you have reset to turn -1.

Game ID 409 "GM_Duke's - TDC Group C Dragonette - Korexus.": Is the game you've just started up.

Suggestion. As before, set 407 to turn -1, you can use it for a later game.
Now you will be able to set 408 to turn 1 and use the "re-run turn" button.
Finally set 409 to turn -1. Again you can use it for a later game.

In the cases of 407 and 409, it would also be nice if you removed me (and Dragonette) from the game as currently I get 27 lines worth of TDC games...

But...both you and Hannibal claimed that the .ini file for the Colonial map was useless. And I couldnt switch to a different map soooooo. New game, fresh start.

Cant see how I could fix the ini file with the neighbourprovinceproblem but if you fixed it then I guess we do it your way. No problem. Just not now since Traveller is on in 11 minutes.

I didn't say it was useless, just that there could be more problems (as it's unlikely that three of the robots landed in the only three provinces with problems). However the only way to fix the ini is to play on the map and find where the problems are. Han is just a quitter. :P

Bryk, the ini should be available through map central, if you want to dig it out... http://www.kaomaris.com/mapcent.htm
