The Duel Championship
Alright. This is the real deal.
I intend to start off this championship but take this as a proposal. If someone want to change parts of this setup we will discuss it. Not until hell freezes over but we can exchange a post or two
We have four groups. Everyone within the groups meet once and a win equals 2 points. If the game reaches over 20 turns the GM will call it a tie and give each player 1 point (so not everyone has to wait for two sleepers to go into 40 turns or beyond) The first two in each group goes into a tournament stage. No1 faces No2 from a different group. Like in football WC
Here are the four groups (I actually drew papers from a hat..well bowl)

I have probably missed a thousand players so call in and I will enter you in a group.
You who have been listed will have to accept playing buy posting here and the same goes for the GM's of each group.
The winner will be awarded The Gassner Trophy!!!

Great idea, Dukie, count me in. Wonderful idea. Nice interesting draw for the group stage!
Just a note on organisation of it? I reckon you should maybe think of it in terms of months or a year, rather than weeks, which is fine, makes it the main event for playing Full Duels. I.e. you probably ought to think twice, if you were thinking that way, before you go to the huge task of simultaneously setting up all the group-stage ties at once. 10 ties per group, 40 ties for us to set up at once, 10 for each GM...
And I'm not sure most players would WANT to get started in 4 Duels at once, against each of the other 4 players in their group-stage. Me, for example, I try to limit myself to 2 games at once, probably one of THESE, plus one other, either Standard, or Lite, or Trinity, or Q, or S, or Team ... And I'm in 3 at the moment (which, Yond, is the only reason why I haven't signed up to your Standard Monster Island, in case it kicks off before I lose two of the three games I'm already in ...).
So, it prob starts with two games in each group? (My guess is you'll end up with 4, not 5, players in each group anyway after refusals?).
I hope you are taking this as a huge YES. I'm only suggesting we take it slow and spread it over most of a year, for the sanity of all of us. Which you might well have had in mind.

Duke, I am at your service to GM my group-stage-group. What do you want us GM's to do next, and when?
Do we wait for a nod from you after you've got acceptances and refusals? I COULD set up my group's two kick-off ties now, but I'll wait for the nod from you. Looking forward to it!

That is a good point. Duke, perhaps we should make this a single-elimination tournament, rather than spending all that time just playing within your group.hAnniBaL wrote:Just a note on organisation of it? Also, we should perhaps have "signups" since not all players may want to play.

I'd wait. It's very unlikely that we'll get the same number of acceptances from each group, so I imagine they'll get re-drawn anyway. (It may be better if we say now that they *will* be re-drawn. That way people won't be put off by knowing they're in a strong group...Hannibal wrote:Do we wait for a nod from you after you've got acceptances and refusals?

The turnlimit will be 20 turns as stated in my first post.
A full duel it is.
Yes there will most likely be some re-arranging within the groups due to people not wanting to play and when we have the exact number of players I say we then determine how to kick this off. I understand if not everyone wants to play four-five games at a time so I am guessing that two games per player will do just fine and the GM's start new ones as the old ones finish.
I dont want an eliminationtournament since the groupthing is more fun.
