Open Invitation to a Full Duel
OK, I need to play a game of WOK now
So I will take anyone on in a Full Duel, anyone up for the challenge?

I'll face you unless someone else wants a try.
I mean I do feel like playing a Duel, but I'm sure Hannibal would... scold me for not letting a Duel newbie play his first Duel against someone with more comparable experience. (And he'd be right )
So if there are no other willing players, you can count on me, Nemesis.

Just a thought. Subject to GM Chris's decision.trewqh wrote:I'll face you unless someone else wants a try.

trewqh, it was good of you to give the keen new player a game asap as no-one else stepped up. It's 99% certain that you'll win if you try, but you're doing it for Nemesis to enjoy, learn and get hooked.
Thought: let Nemesis take that last turn back, where, as you say, he had a hat-trick of bouncing off. Wind back, and new orders for T2? That way, Nemesis will still end up losing, but not from Turn 2 disasters, and will learn and enjoy more? Hi, Nemesis! This is intended for you to enjoy it more, treat it as learning. Hope you don't take offence. I just didn't think you'd enjoy playing on from that discouraging Turn 2.
But Chris is your GM, he decides.

I would like to carry on as normal. I'm not discouraged. I have already learned a lot from this game and can easily join another game after this where I will continue my learning.
Didn't realise the 'lack of experience' would hinder me so much in this game!
That is far more discouraging than the last turn!Nemesis will still end up losing

Sorry, Nemesis. I was trying to encourage you and keep you with us!Nemesis wrote:That is far more discouraging than the last turn!Nemesis will still end up losing
There's a lot of skill and judgement in WOK, and a lot to get the hang of. It would be a bit like learning the rules of backgammon or chess and expecting to win your first game against an experienced player! In the standard 10-player game, you'd still stand a decent chance, because there is the big factor of diplomacy, which you might be a natural at, and alliances can break your way; and maybe a clanmate is partnering you. In a Duel, there's no diplomacy, only strategy and tactics, one-on-one, and making 3 colours work together is even harder, especially for a beginner; and one lucky battle won't win it for your one colour ....
But you might be brilliant from the off, or trewqh might slip or not try hard enough. So good luck. Go for it.

Han ... Nemesis has been around WoK as long as I have, but also on-and-off through the years. I was pretty certain that Nemesis was still playing here when you first came around ...

Heh, who votes we rename 'Vortan' as 'Ecrivian'?
And yeah, looking at the details next to Nem's post would have shown that he joined the forums September 3rd 2002. - Probably been around longer as I believe that was roughly when the forums were put up...
I'd still put my money on trewqh here though. Not because he's the better player, but because Duel doesn't play quite like WoK and trewqh has the experience now to know the differences.
