trewqh's unofficial WoK Duel Hall of Records

In this thread I intend to record the outcomes of Duel games along with the numbers of games played by players and such. Rules of who's better than whom are still a work in progress. If someone wants to suggest a formula or anything they are welcome, but to cut any discussion on how 'fair' these standings might be I'd like to accentuate that this is my thread and the standings are in no way official. This thread shows the effect of my work which I decided to share with the community.

Full Duels currently in progress:
GM Han #31 Full Duel, Skandinavia, TDC Group B, Nemesis v Duke.
GM Han #37 Full Duel, Feudal, TDC Group B, Duke v trewqh.
GM Mike Full Duel, Center Island, TDC Group D, Lardmaster v Aussie Gaz

Remaining Full Duels scheduled as per Duke's TDC (after pull-outs):
GM Kor to set up TDC Group A, TBert v Ultyguy.
GM Duke, or other, to set up TDC Group B, korexus v Hannibal.
GM Duke, or other, to set up TDC Group B, korexus v Hryllantre.
GM Han to set up TDC Group B, trewqh v Nemesis.
Then the knockout stage that Duke had in mind when he set it up.

You can also arrange one-off friendlies, outside of the TDC tournament, but still counting for this table.

The table is quite volatile. Eg. if, say, TBert played again and won, he would rocket up to 9th place. Win again and he would leap to fourth or third. Just an example.

A new player who won, would leap into 6th place.

Please let me know if you know of any results I missed. Thanks.

This could come in very useful. Currently we when have been playing games we have allowed the 'challenger' to decide which set of three provinces to have. All very gentlemanly and in the spirit of enjoying the game, but as Duel gets more popular deciding who the challenger is gets harder. If we take the lowest person from trewqh's table we can keep this very nice feature...

/Realises he just posted in favour of a rating system. :? /

Gotcha! :)

Duels don't give you VPs, so why not have such a table. It's not like it makes anything obsolete or doubles the function of anything.

Anyway, thanks for the thumbs up! :)

Can we add one final column? - (games won - games lost). This statistic would probably be the fairest way to rank players - someone who has played one game and won it would not suddenly shoot to the top of the table - and while people who play lots of games will tend to drift away from 0, this will reflect their higher experience.

Obviously this is not totally fair, but it's a lot simpler than, say the chess ranking system which would be the logical thing to use if we cared that much! :P

Some of the games finished after 2007-02-10 might not have been included yet. Please, contact me if you know of any results I missed, because I don't have time to do data mining.

This is a Hall of Records of Full Duels only, sorry. A separate Hall of Records for Duel Lite games will appear at some point, but, actually, I have 10 days left to hand in my diploma thesis so I'm not really thinking about that now. :)

Okay well I know the thesis is done and gone so WHERE is the DUEL-LITE listing????? Cos I am now one and one having beaten Dragonette and should be going 2 and 1 shortly (only a formality really - only Saladin after all :P )

It's on my to-do list. :P I didn't say I'd do it once my thesis is ready. :)

Three exams ahead. Rather than WoKing I should be studying historical grammar and memorizing the differences between the major varieties of English

Oh well ... and this now feels like swearing but I suppose you have to put real life first ... Eww no ... *spits* ... were is the soap so I can wash my mouth out.

I can tell you the difference between major forms of English. We, that is the English populace speak REAL English, the aristocracy think they do but sound like total idiots ... what was that old bean? ... and then there are the Yanks, Canadians and Aussie's all of which seem intent not just on independance but also on murdering both the spoken and written word. There are SO many words they spell incorrectly it is shameful.

He got lucky, right? I mean if he was any good, he wouldn't have chickened out from our Duel...

Did you count my (incredibly lucky) win against Calidus?

I'm guessing you did, as it was your game but I need to grab every point I can! :P

Last update - today.

With more games being added the list becomes less and less easy to read. I experimented with typographical tricks to improve that. My favourite solution is illustrated by the two entries at the bottom of the list. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Also, according to Han's suggestions, I added the month when each Duel ended and a mention about currently running Duels. (Thanks Han!)

It would be greatly appreciated if GMs or players reported Duels that started here in case I miss some of the threads on the boards. Thanks in advance!

Oh and get rid of teh game from my lobby, it's clogging things up

Hi LM, congrats on your win. Beating Tigress is no mean feat. Hard luck, Tigress. I hope you both enjoyed Duelling.

LM, it's only been a day or three, and the reason it is still clogging your Lobby, asking you for orders, is probably that it stays listed in "Running Games" for a while before it descends out of sight into "View Old Games". This was deliberate. It's so that any watchers can see how a game turned out; I think we settled on it staying around in "Running Games" for 10-14 days for anyone to marvel at it and see how you won; insytead of having to remember it was happening and have to go search in "Old Games" for it.

I hadn't seen it as a problem myself: I just ignore the games my Lobby tells me it wants orders from me for if they're over, until it stops asking when the game descends into "Old Games". But maybe it's clogging.

LM, I'm guessing you agree that it's worth the GM leaving the game as "Finished" but still in "Running Games" for 10-14 days, so that people can see your win :D Kor, maybe we (you!) could code it that once "Finished" appears, the players no longer get it in their lobby as "Submit orders" ? Or, if it's easier, a way for players to edit out in their lobby? Either would do fine?

Ah ha!

Han, I know why you don't have a problem with it ... your never in enough games at once for it to be a problem :P

LM is in ... err ... how many is it LM?
