GM Mike's Colonial

Post by trewqh » Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:31 pm

Following the policy of having at least one open waitlist at all times (is there such a policy? :P) I opened my first WOK-ON Group. :)

Everyone's invited but I have only 10 spots left! :)

GM Mike

PS. Does anyone remember how many groups I completed as a GM before WOK-ON? 5? 7? This numbering was nice.

Was your last one maybe Crossland, where it ended with Mull and I taking on Gravemaker? That was GM Mike #05. If not, that might at least help you to add on the intervening games to get to a number ....

It is possible that I had ran 5 games. I will count Colonial as my 6th.

6 players have joined in 11 days. That's a nice pace. Keep it coming! :)

It is me.

Maybe we should start with nine players?

It appears that this game is "stuck." Anyone want to give it a kick? :smash:

I mailed Mike asking him to fix the game just in case he's not reading the boards. I can do it myself, but I'd prefer to stay out of the database for games I'm playing...

Sorry about that!

I'll fix it in a couple of hours when I return home after my classes.

Can I ask about Hryllantre in this game? He was listed as M-1 on turn 2 and then QUIT on turn 3. Is this a bug, or did Mike change it manually? If Mike did in manually, could he undo it? - Duke took all of Hryllantre's provinces on turn 4, meaning if he hadn't been QUIT prematurely, he would count as RIP. As there's already 2 other QUITs and Lardmaster is M-2, this could make a difference to the VPs at the end of the game...

Oh, and by the way, the OOP needs fixing, again.

Hryllantre quit the game about 24 hours before the turn had run saying that he'd been 'rumbled'. I'm not sure if Duke killing him off afterwards changes anything in that situation. I don't want to deprive you of VPs but I'm not sure I'm entitled to change the status.

Anyone?

There shouldn't be a possibility to QUIT whenever you want to. That just gives people who want to prevent two players who beat them from both getting a vp a possibility to do so. If a player doesn't want to play no more, that's fine. Though he should just go M-1, M-2 and M-3 so that the other players get the change to rip him if it's necessary.

I agree. It has been tempting, although I have not done it, to just tell the GM that I "quit" right before I get RIPped.

I don't think Hryllantre's intention was to potentially lower the VP prize. I don't know whether he knows that if 5 players quit a game (4 in case of a 9 player game or not?) then the game is worth 1 VP only.

It would be 4 in this game, non starters coun as QUIT from the start... (by the way, it would be good if you updated player 10 to reflect this, I can't remember if the enging does so automatically or not.)

It doesn't really matter what Hyrllantre's intentions were as we need consistency in the rules. The automated engine doesn't allow for players to QUIT immediately, that requires GM intervention which takes us to those subjective calls that I hate so much. :P

I do feel that if a player wants to quit, the other players should get a chance to RIP him in order to keep the VPs available. Forcing the player to go M-3 has this effect, it also takes even less effort from the players - they don't even have to mail the GM and allows them a couple of turns for changing their minds if circumstances change. Obviously, I do have a vested interest as I am playing in this game but when I've been on the other side of the coin, I've tried to go M-3, not just mail the GM saying I quit so I think I'm being objective...

And I would like to thank GM Mike for not granting my request for an extension of the deadline....*sigh* made it anyway :)
I check my e-mail every day, I also checked my PMs just now (although I get an e-mail when someone PMs me) and no request from anyone reached me.

How did you try to reach me, who ever you are?

Hmmm interesting. I added some commentary, which then made it look like it was me that asked for the extension (which it wasn't). Then I added some more to clarify that the 1st post wasn't mine. That post has superceded my 1st post so now I still look stupid. If anyone understands all that. Are you only allowed one post then?

Yes, you are allowed one post per turn only. Now you can change yours to 'howdy' or sth.

Btw, I did get your message about the delay.

But the turn should've run automatically by now, I don't know why it didn't. It's either korexus or Satan himself interfering. :pure evil: I'm not sure whether I should force a turn-run. korexus?

I don't think Hryllantre's intention was to potentially lower the VP prize.
I wasn't aware of the result of my actions...

I quit as I had no armies or pop remaining which at such an early stage means death. As 2 or 3 (I think) other players had already quit at that stage, I thought it would speed the game up. I didn't mean to deny anyone a well earned extra VP...

Oh btw - my stats haven't been updated for the 1 VP I gained with trewqh...
