Oops dead.

To be honest I feel a bit frustrated, being RIPed after just one turn.
I was keen to learn but did not really get a chance !
Still have not quite grasped the orders system yet !

Oh well, c'est la vie.

Have fun on the little islands guys.

Hmmm. It seems that your new clan needs to do a better job of teaching you how to play. Now, you would not have had that problem if you had joined a clan like, oh for example .... The Scholars. :gossip:

I would not accuse anyone apart from myself (my brethren gave me advice but I am naturally blonde, you see) : the orders form seemed incredibly complicated and I had little time to try and work things out so I guess I was an easy target.

Sorry to hear that.

That's why, on the "Clan stuff" thread, where Ada was looking for a clan, or wanting to play clanless, I proposed that fist-timers should have a "mentor", someone who would go beyond waiting for queries from the new player, and actually check his or her first set of orders or two, and correct any order-entering or big tactical mistakes. Eg., in Ada's case, from what I saw of her first orders on the map, that it's usually not a great idea to divide your starting-armies to attack in two different directions on Turn 1 !

I'm not sure that a comprehensive clan "manual" would achieve the same thing. The poor new-player has enough to read and absorb. Better if someone is a "mentor" who will look at their first orders, look at the first TR's and steer them a bit. They have to get the balance right (certainly not playing for them, but pointing out errors and giving them viable options). Hey, maybe the mentor should always copy in the GM, as some kind of brake on the risk of the mentor just effectively playing the game for their pupil?

I don't think it's a matter of clans as such, though that's absolutely no jibe at Eg's post, because a bit of clan-smack-talk is always worth having, no criticism intended.

It's probably more a matter of which individuals are prepared to "mentor", and have the time at that time. On the other hand, I hear the Scholars' Manual is really excellent and covers every conceivable eventuality (except for running into Vulkings!), including 17 ways to sleep, and what you MUST do on Turn 1 in order to then allow you to just pull the covers up and take a nap for a month ..... Just teasing, OK, just more clan-smack-talk, OK? (The Scholars ARE very good, ......).

Don't feel bad. It happens to many a new player. In fact it happened to your persecuter Caster in his first game (Cross Island ; I was there fighting him) - he was ripped on Turn 2 before even any of his Turn 2 orders took effect.... but he came back wiser and hopefully enjoying the ride ....

Ada, I hope, given your early enthusiasm, that you try another game? Maybe Egbert's that has just opened?

Well, I guess that would depend on how good the manual is.

No offense, but I think that is the job of a clan.

Definitely! Please join! I just wish we could get more people to join games (and play them!), so that beginners can keep playing and gain lots of experience.

Where is Duke, our head recruiter? Duke, how do we drum up some business? :mrbanana:

Duke is tired. Leave him for now.

Ummm how long is that 24hr entension exactly!?! Its just that I need to sleep :)

Frightfully sorry for the nag ole chap but Im blinking tired...

Obviously a 24hr eNtension is longer than a 24hr eXtension perhaps!!! :P That must be it... Its been a long time since I postponed sleep for a game.

This game has also lost it's OOP. This absolutely *has* to be connected to the extensions somehow, but I'm stumped as to how. Tyler, could you also tell me exactly what you did to extend the turn?

Chris.

Well, the turn has run (good job, Tyler! :2thumbs:) and the OoP in my TR is the same as the one on Islette's turn 4 gamepage. So I don't think we are running a bugged game.

In other news:

The WOK Gazette

"Has CrazyPsycho got freightened (sp?) by trewqh so much that he fled the battlefield of Tyler's Islettes? But actually... it doesn't really matter anymore since the Vulking is about to destroy all of CP's armies on turn 5! Go trewqh!"

The WOK Gazzette:

Turn overdue without notice

Why?! Oh, why?! :bigcry:

Is it the OoP bug again?
