Hi,

Could one of the forum moderators make this a sticky post?

Thanks!

----------------------

Go to the standard wok lobby

At the bottom you will find the Gamemasters menu.

There you click on: Create a new WOK Online game

You are then transported in to the magic realm of game creation. :)

Let’s walk through all the different options here.

Your name - Should have your gm name already showing.

Game name – Here you can type the name of the game you are going to GM. For instance ‘Squares’.

Game map – Here you can choose which standard wok map you would like to use.

Under player information you can put in all the players that have already signed up with you. You can choose to select their names from the drop down boxes or put in their names manually in the second field. And of course add their clan allegiance as well.

Under Game Settings you can turn the standard settings for the game on or off.

Allow Headhunting (attacks) – Allows a player to attack another player’s home province on the first turn with his armies.

Allow Headhunting (missiles) – Allows a player to bomb another player’s home province on the first turn with his missiles.

Allow Headhunting (spies) – Allows a player to sabotage or steal pop from another player’s home province on the first turn with his spies.

Game for VPs – Here you can decide if it’s just a training game or if there will actually be victory points awarded to the winner(s)

Rated game? – Here you can decide if the players in this game will have their ratings adjusted with the results in this game or not.

Hours between turns – This sets how many hours there are before the next turn is run.

Mention missiling in commentary – Determines whether or not the commentary will reveal who used missile on who.

Then you also have the Expert settings, which give the GM absolute control over all settings in the game. Though of course the settings have a default for a reason as that’s the standard setting that works best. So don’t mess with these settings unless you know what you’re doing. :D

You can then press the Set Up Game! button and there you go another game for people to join!

This looks odd/confusing to me. I never DID find out what "no headhunting" meant .... Surely you can't have a game where you can't attack another player's home provs?!! I'm guessing you mean in the first turn or three? Maybe worth setting that out clearly. I'm sure any veteran GM's understand it, but I'm looking at it from the POV of new players using this as a guide to what "no headhunting" means ....?

Honestly trying to comment constructively, not criticise. Maybe I should have just let it pass ....

Yes Han, you are on track on the headhunting or HH rule. I learned about it the hard way getting my attack orders denied.

The rule is that you cannot attack and kill any opponent on turn 1. The purpouse of the rule is to take away some of the power of the OOP (order of play) i.e. the order of which players attack.

Butcher: You post somewhere where I will see the problem, or you email me. Either way, sap that I am, I will sort it out as soon as possible. If the game is running, it's also worth pausing it.

Sal: "Mention missiling in commentary – Determines whether or not the commentary will reveal who used missile on who." You mean on whom. Sorry, it's been a trying night and I have to take it out on someone...

Also Sal: (and anyone reading the advice - which is generally good btw) You need to select each player from the list, otherwise the game won't know who is playing. The edit name option is purely for people who have different names on the boards and in games. (such as gm_al - Dark Monk and Lowebb - X-Wing.) It also allows you to have Donut playing as Gay-Wad, but that is purely an added bonus, not at all tthe reason I implemented it. Honest...

Bump. Added a link to some GMing guides to the top of Sal's post. Hopefully they will help new GMs...
