Orphaned games this season

Post by trewqh » Sun Sep 21, 2003 6:08 pm

I would like someone to answer these questions:

How many turns did Paul's 2 and 3 and Dom's 5 last?

Did GMC have access to either dat files or TRs for those groups when they awarded VPs?

My intention isn't to question the verdicts. Just want to know how it was handled.

I can't comment on Paul's 02, but Dom's 05 was decided by the GMC after they had looked at all the turn reports of the remaining players.

I don't recall specific game numbers, but if Paul's 2 was the Europe map the GMC also decided on that case. I believe that one and Dom's are the only two cases we looked at for the current season.

Paul's 3 was the Kal-Amin (swamps?) game.

I know what these games were:
Paul's 2 was WW 2 X-game
Paul's 3 was Kal-Amin Swamps X-game
Dom's 5 was Slaughterhouse X-game

If anyone knows the answers [to the questions in the first post of this thread] please post them here.

Thanks Sal.

WW2 Europe lasted ages. They were down to 3 contenders, and as it was a WOK5 game, there were 3 VPs to give out. 1 each was the obvious decision. I believe the players voted unanimously for that. If the game had continued, one of those players would have probably been double-teamed. I think Dameon and Raw were two of the players there.

Kal-Amin was split between Bjorn and AF I think (though I am not sure at all). They were by far the 2 strongest players as I recall, and got 1.5VP each.

Slaughterhouse was a tough decision. I think only about 5/6 turns had passed, but already only 3 players had any fight left in them (remember - this game had far fewer provinces). We only had 2 VPs to award, and there were 3 strong players - Raw, AF, and Eg. After looking at the turn reports we decided to split the VPs between Raw and Eg.

Now Trewqh, what are you really interested in?

Thanks for the answers Thin King.

I found a link to GM Gun's 1 orphaned game. But asking the GMC to resolve it would be asking way too much in the light of how the previous situations were handled.

Pauls 2 was not an X-Game to my knowlege, it was a regular WOK 5 game. I am pretty sure we were about 14-15 turns into it.

Doms 5 was a WOK 4 X Game 5 turns were completed. The reason VP's were awarded was that the map only had 40 prov's which shortened the game considerably. (spelling?)

Cheers,

Jeez, that game had only run about 3 turns hadn't it? Massie died, Covenant was going down but I don't think there was much difference between the rest. It'd be impossible to judge that.

*Thought hits.*

Weren't you in that game, trewqh?
Does anyone want to open a pool as to who had the highest score when the game was abandoned? :wink2:

You're right. That's why I never asked the GMC to do it.

Lol, score plays no part in such a decision as score doesn't take in to account the level of somebody's armies. :)

Well, I spend a lot time that should go towards studying looking at WoK games instead. And for some reason I find it much easier to remember games than maths...
Also, I'd have tried exactly the same thing if it were me! :P

In WOK 4 it does, for sure. Just checked that.

I used the WOK 4 Manager to check that. You have that tool too, so you too can check that it does.

Just start a new group, memorize scores for two players and then, for example, take away 1 army from each but lower the level for only one of them. You'll see that although you took away 1 army from each, changing their level will cause different score changes.

Yes, level is part of the score calculation, I will confirm that.

Players tend to misinterpret score a lot. Its a (weighed) sum of all your possessions.

A score of 2.000 could well mean you have a low number of armies at high level, lots of basic-level armies or no armies at all (but tons of workers and POP/missiles)

You never know....

PS: even EFF is taken into the calculation.

A new day and another thing learned. :)

Though if it does show in the score personally i feel it doesn't show enough, but that's ok with me...the bigger the surprise will be for my victims. :P

personally I think Pop and Workers are bigger factors in score.
But I will tell you 1 thing if you do nothing but send off 200 missiles your score will take a serious hit
There's no need to fear...........

Well, I THINK, it's not really a question to have a personal view on...
Just run your Manager and figure it out. It's not that hard with WOK 4 (not sure about WOK 5 yet).
