Post by Donut » Mon Jan 01, 2007 3:48 am

Hey all,

A lots happened since I last played a game. Last I knew WOK4 was just finishing its automation. From there I have no idea whats happened.

Could someone enlighten me? :D

Welcome back, Donut! :2thumbs:

WOK 4 is now called Standard WOK and it is also fully online and automated. The GM is only needed to set up a game and accept players to it, because even the commentary is automated now (of course it lacks depth but it's decent and, most importantly, it's always there). Besides that Hannibal came up with and korexus implemented a Standard WOK variant we call Duel. It's a variant for two-players. Both players take control of 3 player colours/spots and the 4 remaining are controlled by predictable (but not at all weak) bots! These two players fight against eachother and need to eliminate 2 out of 3 enemy colours to win.

Also, recently, korexus added an open Practice game available through the Lobby for anyone to mess with (but please reset once you're done :) )

We are also slowly going through Hannibal's master plan of how to improve the site to increase the "stay-rate" of newbies.

It's not that easy to fill a 10-player Standard WOK game these days, but I think it wouldn't be difficult to find a challenger for a Duel game if you'd like to try one.

Cheers,
trewqh

Welcome back Donut!

Good summary, trewqh. Can I just add that GMs *can* still write their own summary if they want and that the practice game is currently broken, I'm trying to figure out why...

I'll open up another Duel, just in case :)

That's right. GMs can edit and add to the commentary, but that's not all, also the players can add to the commentary to add flavour. The fun thing about that is that they can even do it anonymously.

Although none of you ever do... :(

WoK Practice game should be back up and running now. - I'd been over zealous when making the reset button, to the point where pressing it disabled the game for everyone. It just resets now, have fun!

Donut:

You should be able to view all your own turn reports, if not use the practice game to generate some. (Just add yourself and your friend so no one else gets notification emails, remember to reset afterwards!)

What's wrong with the text version? - It could just be showing old reports wrongly new ones are fine, I believe...

I understand that buggered up is a technical term, but can you be more specific?

I know you can hit the button loads of times, I didn't plan to stop that as I thought you'd left!

Clans are on Hiatus. People don't have to be members right now, but they're still around in principal (Scholars and Vulkings anyway)

Kikkertje:

Welcome! The action is here, I'll open another game. I'm sure someone will be willing to play you. If not, I can transfer the game to someone else. I might even find the time to play myself. It's been long enough now...

Hope that answers all the questions. Now, how does one pronounce "Kikkertje"?

Pronouncation:
- kikk as kick
- er as er in beaker
- the J in tje as the Y in you
- the E in tje is the same sound as the other E
- stress is on the kikk

Combined its the Dutch word for 'froggy'. =)

I can view mine... I just couldn't show it to someone else :P

Aye, I was trying to look at an old one.

It looks like the map is too big. It pushes the border way off to the right.

:D I'm back... might wanna work on that :D

This is not correct about clans. Kikker tried to signup for your Group 7 and it told him that he had to be in a clan in order to join a game. So there :P

Also... you may wanna somehow make it so that it tells you which game a player is trying to join so that you don't get confused and add someone to a duel

You want me to make it so other people can view your turn reports? Why not just show him through your log in? - Or use the test game as Isaid before.

The game page doesn't force map size, as people view on different resolutions. They just show at the size the designer made them...

You want me to work on you being back or on the submit button?

I thought the clan check had been removed. Thanks for the heads up. I'll change it.

The notification does say which game you've applied for, I just didn't read the title. (I opened that standard game so long ago, I'd forgotten about it!)
