Just the demo... I've been lusting for the full version, but I haven't been able to justify the cash layout to myself yet.

I would say it is defintaely worth the price. It doesn't offer anything I would call particularly groundbreaking, in essence it's a 1st person shooter really, but it is easily the most atmospheric game I have played and has a couple of neat twists. Well worth a look. On the downside I had to look up an explanation to the ending of which there are two depending on how you play the game, which didn't really make sense to me.

Overall I would give it a 92%.

If you do buy it though one word of warning, the easy setting is really really really easy so don't bother with it.

I picked it up yesterday, so I'll let you know what I think once I've finished it. 'course, the way things are going right now that might be in 2010, but that's life with a toddler...

okay, I finally finished it late last night. I went "good" all the way, or at least as much as you can in this game. Never harvested a Little Sister, and made sure that none of them died on my watch, either. I tell you, when you've got a little girl of your own at home the thought of seeing one of those all-too-realistic kids come to harm was enough to make me feel a little sick inside. There's not a chance that I'll play through it again for the "evil" ending.

I think that makes this one of the better games I've played, in that I really did care about the characters. I don't know if that's ever happened for me in a shooter before, except for Half-Life 2 where I gave a bit of a dangnabbit about Alyx.

You don't really know how much Alyx means to you until the first 15 minutes of Episode 2. Trust me.

Little girls? In a FPS? That sounds almost as bad as the Cherubs in Doom3, I won't play that game again until my daughter is at least 2 years old, lest I have nightmares of her turning into one.

Yeah, little girls in an FPS. And, yeah, their presence is pretty disturbing if that's the sort of thing that gets to you. In many ways, the story revolves around the Little Sisters. Certainly, how you decide to deal with them drives the plot.

I think there are two breeds of gamers; those who identify with their onscreen avatar and act as if the game is 'real,' and those who don't get sucked into the game that way and just play it as a contest without worrying about whether their actions have anything to do with their real life.

Another game that has that twist is the Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic series. It was very difficult for me to play through as evil, eventually killing all the people that I had grown attached to when I first played through as good.

So play as evil first, that way you can kill them while you're not attached to them, and make it up to them by saving their lives when you play as good later on. :P

That's true, but most of the evil storylines consisted of killing everybody that didn't agree with you, where the good storyline had you working with/talking to the people instead of just killing you. Playing as good was much more fun, if sometimes a bit irritating.
