Best Board Game?

Post by Tinker » Tue Sep 11, 2007 5:42 pm

I'm guessing that most of us are board gamers as well as computer gamers, so I'd like to ask what your favourite cardboard games are? I'll start:

Favourite War Game - A Game of Thrones (has to be a full 5 players, though)
Favourite Non-War Game - Power Grid

Hmmm. At the moment I have been playing :- San Juan, Jambo!, Lost Cities, Wyatt earp and Ark of the Covenant. All good 2 player games for when I was on holiday with the missus :)

Favourite ever? Not sure, I am a big Settlers of Catan fan though. I kind of collect boardgames so I have quite a few knocking about. www.boardgamegeeks.com is a really good website.
Question everything.

Uhm... ::cough:: ... Chess?

I did play some Car Wars back in the day, that's more of a miniatures-themed RPG than a board game though.

Sigh... I've been out-gamed. I go to hang my head in shame.

Favourite game changes with mood. I'm a fan of strategy type games, Chess, Risk, Statego, Settlers. But then I also like silly games, Killer Bunnies, War and Sheep and the all time classic, Munchkin.
Looking back at the list, I tend to play strategic board games and silly card games. Although I'm sure there's some cross over if I think about it...

Just saw this thread. Irresistible.

I think my favourite published game is Apocalypse, aka Warlords, but only the LBGC Houserules version for 5 players not 4. Followed by Rairoad Tycoon. Followed by RoboRally, but preferably the LBGC version I call "Team RoboRally", where it's three-on-three and Robos shoot each otrher, divying up the tasks for some to defend a flag, others to go for the enemy's flag. Lots of friendly fire and laughter, a hoot!. Then Imperial and Struggle Of Empires. Not counting the ones I'm biased on: 3 of my own 30 inventions: Labyrinth, Alliance, and Broadside. Don't search for them, I never got round to publishing them! Apocalypse Rules!

I'm kinda new to gaming in the last couple years...

Game of Thrones is probably my favourite strategy game that I've played so far.

War of the Ring is another great war game.

Globetrotters is a fun game...especially for casual gamers.

Just picked up Ticket to Ride and played with the wife. We both enjoyed it.
