Does anyone here know of Chosen Space?

Having been disloyally cruising the net on a quest to find further entertainment I discovered a sci-fi thing called Chosen Space. It uses, or appears to use a very similar forum format to this including the bottom bit on latest registered etc.

Is this another of the mysterious Al's projects or is it purely coincidental?

Finally - is it any good? It doesn't sound so tough to figure out but when you arrive and discover they have 6000 registered players and 302 online. someone must know something - right?

Do tell.

Hi Vortan,

I don't know about that game, but the forum and actually the whole Kaomaris website is called PHPNuke and can be freely used by anyone who wants to and is actually quite easy to set up. It's not designed by Al though. :) You can find more info here: http://phpnuke.org/

Although, in fact the forums are phpBB, which is independant from but compatible with phpNuke. It's still free to use though, so pretty common if you look around.

Thanks for that - when my ever so variable broadband picks up speed again I will try to actually get myself set up and see if I can't cunningly 'mention' WOK to some of its 6000 users - steal a few maybe

Trouble is that in game it seems they have to be in comm range so I guess I will have to blatently use the forum in a week or two, you know, once I have become established as a pest :P I'm good at that  no truly I sm, I know you find it hard to believe (Vortan looks through emoticons for tongue in cheek and cant find one).

This game is excellent for those who love diplomacy and economics. I started just a few days ago with a Light Mining ship, as an independant miner. I am now a Paladin (rank3) within the Planet Aeten Council. I have been given the power to recruit new members to the council and the autonomy to do so without consulting others.

My finances started at 2M$ and are now at 131M$. I should be able to buy my Heavy Mining ship in about a week and then just watch me go.

If any of you fancy signing up go to www.chosenspace.com select a Light Miner in the Raxian galaxy, make for the planet Aeten and join me. As the group grows we will be able to take over the surrounding space stations and sectors. All without firing a shot!

Hang on. Are you trying to recruit Chosen Spacers to WoK or WoKers to Chosen Space?! :P

Well, I have decided that, as I am superhuman, I can probably handle taking over the galaxy as well as conquering the Worlds of Kaomaris. I have to do something between turns running in the seven WOK games I am in at present.

 I have the POWER! But I NEED more. HAHAHAHAHA!

 Err .. sorry, lost it there for a moment.

I started playing yesterday afternoon. I now have $270 million. And I didn't even use up all my starter turns either. Beat that Vortan.

Currently I am being GIVEN 80M$ per day before I actually do anything. I am being financed towards a Heavy Miner. I currently have 1,396 points plus over 120M$ so the points side (valued at over 150k$ each) are taken care of.

I am currently at a 118,000 isaton asteroid which is yielding Iridium, Zirconium and Tetrium ore which makes it VERY valuable and VERY VERY frustrating as I can only shift it at 160 isatons per run!

So this one is based on turn points which regenereate automatically at a particular pace? Is there a max no. of turn points that you can accumulate and that you have to spend before getting more?

Is it at all possible to have fun playing this one if someone wants to devote, let's say, an hour every three days to the game?

So where are you? And what you calling yourself.

I am flying a ship called "The Vigilante" as Capt. Vortan Iskalegar.

I've been playing for an hour or so and am getting bored already.

The game has potential for a lot of depth (voting to see who controls planets and stuff) but for the majority of users it's do whatever you picked for a job, upgrade your ship, continue. It seems you'd need to put a lot of work in for the more interesting stuff.

To answer your question, trewqh. You get one turn/minute and the maximum you cn have is a day's worth.

Well I have just been GIVEN 800,000,000$ and 1000 pts to buy a Heavy Mining ship and upgrade some of its systems. It seems to be working for me. But then I always loved Frontier (Amiga) and Travellers Merchant Prince system (GDW) so I guess its horses for courses. Get involved politically kor and see how much your interest is tweaked.

Talk about a flying advert Capt. korexus aboard the Kaomarian. Accept the invite and become embroiled in interstellar politics. Trust me it is set to become complicated. You have the chance to become a somebody in a non-wok world. It helps fill the time anyway - if you have any :P

I'm Captain Zep (anyone remember that show?) aboard the Esperanto. Can't say it's blowing me away so far but it doesn't take long to play.

Ah! What a wonderful game!
I still play a remake of the original Elite now and then. Great fun! But Frontier was even better. I wonder when someone will make a new version of it...

I dont know but if you liked Frontier and Elite then you WILL like this Mullog, its not got the same combat graphics but the variety of ships and trade goods is fairly extensive. And as its played through your browser you can have a window for email, a window (or 2) for WOK and another for CS.
