Math problem

I suck at math so I need help here. It doesnt sound as it is that hard really. Even Oxford should be able to figure this out.

The cleaning machines I sell sometimes need to go in forklift isles that are elevated a bit.

I know the percentage that the machines can handle with diesel engines/battery packs etc. and if I know the percentage of the elevation then there is no problem.

A customer now gave me this:

The forklift isle is 16 meters long and elevates 13 cm/m which gives you an angle of 8 degrees.

How do I translate this into percentages?

(SQRT((100^2)-(13^2)))/13 = 7.62

100/7.62 = 13.11 %

rise over tread, multiply by 100 to get the percent. [/edit]

Hmm, lets see now...

Squirt? I'll get back to that. 100^2, that must be division so I get 50 there. Going well so far. 13 was the cm and by the looks of it I will divide that in half too. 7.5 then and then devided by 13 again.

Seriously, I get that SQRT stands for Square root (at least that is what I assume) but I am sorry. You have lost me at the very beginning here. And what are these ^ ? Am I suppoused to multiply it by itself? As in 13^2 equals 13*13?

The only thing I do know is that 7.62 is the ammunition size we have in our AK4's in the army in Sweden.

Yeah, SQRT is short-hand for 'square root', ^ for 'to the power of' (in mathematical notation the powers are superscript...)
