2 Postions Games

Hey ya'll,

Has there ever been any discussions about games where players control two positions at once?

i.e. having a game with 5 players, each controlling 2 positions?

I know it would require more planning/time/effort on the players side, but not really for the GM.

Also, you would only be able to have one winner.

This may also work best with a set number of turns.

Would people think this would be too much to take on for a player? The turn around would have to be fairly long (say 1 week) and you would have to have dedicated players who would not drop out, but I think it would be an interesting one to play, and could have interesting tactics.

OR, would it be just like having five sets of clan members playing against each other?

Thoughts?

I believe this was actually done before, probably about 1-2 years ago. Anyone remember?

Yep, we've been there.

I remember Underdog beating Goat Herder in the final showdown of such a game.

I think they were beginners at the time.

We are a bit limited in the number of game running. I'd rather see 10 players get a game than 5.

Yeah as I wrote the first post I was thinking, 'hmm, only five players in a game meansa five others miss out...'

So that is a 'thing' and at the moment there are always more players wanting to be in than there are games available...

Been there. Done that. It was GM Tom group 03.

I believe it was a beginner game, though it is difficult to think of some of the players in it as beginners. It allowed new players to try out two positions without having to wait for a full group of 10.

I don't recall having any problems with deadlines. Because it was a small group we could be pretty flexible with deadlines, but I cannot recall many turns where I did not have orders from all the players.

Might be funny to play two positions but only be allowed to send in orders for one of them.....

And in the next turn only be allowed to send in orders for the other position.

And so on....

Better if you didn't have to alternate as that would mean players would know when an empire would be defenceless. Instead how about if an empire could go M3 just by the player sneding orders for the other one three turns in a row. More flexible but keeping the pressure on players to get orders in on time.

I like that. Sounds we are heading towards a nice new X-game idea !

This is an idea that I have been thinking on for a while to be my next game. I really like the twist that Al and Korexus have put on it. I will have to keep this in mind......
