How about a nice, normal game of WoK, without all the X-Game nonsense?

New game for you!

Post by korexus » Wed Sep 29, 2004 11:15 am

Ok, as promised I've worked through the rules of a few new X-Games for you all. As Nick isn't sure when he can start up his game and Josh hasn't replied (Are you ill, D-man? I make that almost 24 hours without you constantly scanning the site! ) I'm giving an option of 2 WoK IV X-Games and 2 WoK V. Sites are now in place for all of them, so here we go.

1) Missilemania
WoK IV X-Game.

As this was runner up last time round I thought I'd offer it to you again. Province numbers are jumbled up so that long range missiles can come from just about anywhere. Players will also start with some missiles although they can't fire them at a player on the first turn.

Link: www.gmchris.kaomaris.com/group03a.php

2) Second Home
WoK IV X-Game.

Originally designed as a WoK V X-Game for Nick's "Trade Wars" map, I figured this could work reasonably in WoK IV as well. Played on the original map, each player may pick a second province to add to thier empire after turn 0 has run. This province will then start with level 1.3 armies but will not count as a home province (so no extra def, no spies and it can be attacked on turn 1). Players will pick in reverse order of ranking in order (hopefully) to give new players a helping hand. Each player will also start with 50 tech points. Allowing for a 4th attack on turn 1.

Link: www.gmchris.kaomaris.com/group03b.php

3) City of Gold
WoK V X-Game

A continuation of some of the ideas from Xarfei's "10 Kingdoms" map in this game there will be an extra win condition. Any player who holds the central province in 70 for 2 complete turns (so not counting the turn it was taken) will automatically win the game. However, the city is surrounded by deserts which cannot be crossed by any player with a tech level lower than 15 and anything left in the deserts at the end of the turn will die (although ownership is retained). Also the province type of the city is unknown (and possible changing throughout the game, if I'm in a mean mood) so upgrades are unlikely to help.

If this game is chosen, it may be necessary to reduce the VPs awarded for the alternative win condition to 2. If everyone thinks it's too easy...

4) Grudgematch.
WoK V X-Game.

Inspired by Baron Roland waaay back and talked over my TK, Xarfei and myself many times since. In this game, there are 5 islands with 12 provinces. Each of these will have 2 players on at the start. When a player eliminates his opponent, bridges will open up allowing passage to the next island - whether the occupants of that place have finished their fighting or not. Ideally I'd like player's joining up in pairs for this one. - Especially if they banter together often on the boards. I will try to line up individual players with opponents of roughly equal skill.

I've voted. Now close up the sack so I win and put me in a cage with Carmen Electra. Oh wait, it had to be someone from WOK. Ok, pick my opponent then.

I voted for the grudgematch.

Unfortunately there is nobody currently playing who I have a grudge against.

Put me up against anyone other than Duke (he is a clan mate afterall).

I voted for Grudgematch as well. I don't hold any grudges though so put me against whoever. Hmmmmm, my skill level in wok 5? That would probably mean Donut.

I've voted for second home, though missilemania would also be great!

Think of all the poor newbies that are dying to get in to a wok 4 game, so go for wok 4 instead of wok 5.

Hmmm.... Ever since we split those VP's Val it seems we have some sort of rivalry  . I would accept your challenge and try to pay you back for Dookies game :P . I too will be voting for Grudgematch.

Chris: I checked the site numerous times yesterday... even sat in the chat room for about 20 min. You just aren't too intuned with WOK yet to instinctively know when to take a look. With all the spare time you have right now you should be living here :P .

I also have an idea for a WOK V X-game and am waiting for the Clan Champs to end to run it. If you open a WOK V game I will open a WOK IV however. If there aren't too many new players that sign up I may make it a MissileMania game as I thought that would be interesting to watch.

Donut
P.S. - I love how Sal's interests lie in the new players that won't get to play a WOK IV game... you wouldn't happen to want to join that game, would ya? :P

Grudgematch - the only way in which I can play WOK V and not neighbour Massielita from the beginning.

Grudgematch or City of Gold, I'd be happy to play in either one.

I was thinking of running Missilemania (AF's map) as soon as one of the games I'm in ends.

Maybe you could run my Dreadmorgue map Donut, so I can get a chance to play on it.

Unless of course Massie is your "Grudge-Mate" :P

UT... I'll run whatever is called for. I have no quams(sp?) about running any map. But I do have a rather elaborate X-game planned.

Yeah, scratch me running Missilemania. I'll be running AF's WOK 5 X-game he's working on.

Grudgematch sounds like fun.

Put me up against Nick. Or a Scholar. Whoever is man enough to play. 8)

But wait until I am back at uni - its only a week from tomorrow!!!

City of Gold sounds fun but a bit easy.

Second Home sounds great too, even though I would pick last.

Oh, I only just noticed I am above Korexus in the ratings. Cool. :D

But the ratings have to be wrong since I'm on the very end of the list and Papercut is listed twice.

Haha... I just told Chris yesterday that I've done that several times...

I guess that's what I get for updating the page...
